Shrews Women director of football on new head coach hunt

2 May 2024

Chloe Hudson-Jones sat down with Salop to discuss the hunt for Shrewsbury Town Women's new head coach.

Shrewsbury Town Women are on the hunt for a new head coach following the recent announcement that Derry Creighton will be taking on a new challenge next season.

Chloe, who runs the club alongside fellow directors Leanne Rimmer and Brogan Cook, joined the club last summer and appointed Derry.

Sitting down with Salop to update fans on the plan moving forward, Chloe discussed Derry's new opportunity and outlined what the club are looking for in a new head coach.

With Derry moving on for a role with Liverpool’s LFC International Academy, how would you describe the impact he has had during this time here at the club?

"It was massive.

"We took over at the start of the season and then we interviewed Derry. He was a standout candidate with his experience coming in.

"We knew he was someone that was really hungry and willing to learn and develop - that's absolutely what he's done. I think it'll be a massive loss for the club.

"I'm so happy that we've been a part of helping him to develop, to be able to have this opportunity at Liverpool and I think it'll be absolutely brilliant for him.

"For such a young guy, he's got the world ahead of him.

"The door will always be open and he’s got a really, really good relationship with the club. He's just been so great.

"He has been so brilliant and hungry to develop. He's put everything into practice that we could have asked.

"I'm so happy and so proud of him for his achievements."

What sort of qualities are you looking for in the new head coach?

"The previous two head coaches in Derry and Tom (Peevor) left the club in really good places and I think that's what we want to push, that they've left because they've earned fantastic opportunities.

"We’re in a great place as a club. We’re our own entity, we run the club with the three of us as directors.

"It's a great opportunity for someone who is really passionate about the women’s game and about progressing in the women's game, not just with the club as a person and as a coach as well.

"We want that type of person. We want someone really invested in women's football and with experience within women's football, who wants to join our journey because this year has been really successful for us.

"We want to match that next year. I'm really excited about the advert going out and about the interviews that are going to take place.

"I’m sure we'll really look after whoever jumps up for the role."
