Dan Udoh spoke to the media after scoring the goal that ensured Shrewsbury retained their League One status.
Dan has scored two huge goals over the past five days with his strikes seeing us earn crucial points at both Bolton and Charlton.
And today's result at The Valley - combined with Cheltenaham's defeat to Lincoln - means we have retained our League One status for the 2024/25 campaign.
Speaking to the assembled media, Dan discussed netting his 11th goal of the campaign.
The striker also talked about our survival and how much he is enjoying playing under head coach Paul Hurst and his assistant Chris Doig.
The video of Dan's interview will be uploaded shortly. A full transcription can be found below.
On scoring the goal that secured our League One status:
“I'm delighted. I said on a podcast a few months ago that the aim was to stay up and we've done it.
"It’s not just about my goal – it’s everyone as a collective.
“There have been other goals from Shipperz (Jordan Shipley), Skip (Chey Dunkley).
"Everyone’s chipped in this year. It’s been a tough year but we’ve got across the line and that’s what’s important.”
On doing it with one game spare:
“You don’t want to go to the last game and you’re still pushing.
“I’ve seen times where Man City won the league and (Manchester) United lost it right at the end.
"Because I’m a United fan I was gutted with that.
“But as a footballer, no one wants a relegation on their CV.
"I’m just buzzing for the club because, at the end of the day, I’m a Shrewsbury fan myself and I want the club to be playing as high as possible."
On being at Salop for a long time:
“That’s why it’s so important to me, important to my family – it’s a club that’s given me the chance to be an established League One player so of course I want the club to do well.”
On the scenes at the end:
“They’re the best thing about the club, the fans – without the fans where would the club be?
"It’s important that as players we see them and celebrate with them when they come so far.
“I don’t know how much it costs to get on the train or drive here to South London and support your team – it’s just right for us as players to do our best.
“And every player does give their best.
"I know there are times where it looks like we’re not giving our best, but I’m telling you now no player goes out onto the pitch to have a bad game or to not run around.
“It’s just a lack of confidence at times.
"I’m just buzzing and delighted we’ve given the fans something to go home happy with.”
On the performance:
“It’s a tough ground to come to, they’ve got the top goal scorer (Alfie May) in the league – the boys at the back kept him quiet.
“We were a bit gutted about the goal that they scored because the manager and Doigy (Chris Doig) told us to make sure we start the second half fast because they’re going to come out fast.
“Knowing their manager, he was going to give them a rollicking – we just needed to start fast and it was a deep run that we could’ve seen.
“At the end of the day we’ve come here to get safe and we’ve got safe.”
On his goal:
“I'm always buzzing to score.
“The thing is with football, there’s always expectation and when I got injured and did my knee, my expectation straightaway was to hit the ground running as fast as possible.
“I set myself a target of playing 30 games and scoring 10 goals.
“I’ve gone over the 10 goals (in all competitions) but I’ve got nine in the league so I need another goal and we've got one more game."
On playing under Paul Hurst:
“It’s been brilliant, they (Paul Hurst and Chris Doig) have been really good.
“It’s helped me because I’ve got people now closer to me up the pitch so I’m getting more chances.
“Before, I was averaging a shot a game or a shot every two games – if that – something like that.
“We get all the stats, stats are crazy in football now, and I’m averaging three shots a half, so obviously I need to score more but I’ll take it."
On his future at the club:
“At the end of the day, like I say, I am a Shrewsbury fan and it is down to the club now.
“I've left it all in their hands.
“I am just doing my best to make sure the club stays up and we have done that.
“We still have one more game and like I said I still want one more goal - possibly two - and then we'll see where the future takes and go from there."
