Midfielder sings on permanent deal with Town

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to have completed the signing of David McAllister from Sheffield United for an undiscosed fee.

The 24-year-old, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Greenhous Meadow last season, has signed a two and a half year deal with Shrewsbury.

"Just over a week ago Sheffield United accepted a bid for David McAllister so obviously we're pleased to have concluded the deal," said manager Graham Turner.

"He played 15 games in a succcessful period last season and he's a good competitor in ther. He's a very fit lad, uses the ball well, can strike a good ball although he didn't get any goals for us in his loan spell.

"But he's capable of doing that as we know from the opening game of the season when he scored Sheffield United's only goal of the game against us.

"I'm sure supporters appreciate his enthusiasm for the game, his endeavours on the pitch and they are also infectious. He's a very fit lad so he's got the ingredients of a decent midfield player."

McAllister has often been used this season by the Blades in a right-sided midfield role and the Town boss said his arrival would give him better options.

"I would have always assumed he's a central midfield player but that option is always available," he said. "He's done quite well and played quite a numer of games in a successful Sheffield United this season who are up near the top of the league so it gives us that alternative of playing him central or wide."

GT added he was pleased to have landed the Irishman whose signing provides extra competition in midfield.

He said: "I think inititially it was a surprise that Sheffield United would sell him as he's figured in a lot of their games but I think the fact that he has been here, he knows all about us, he knows the professional attitude, the work ethic here, and I think it did help in his decision to join us."

The signing is complete and the club are awaiting confirmation from the Football League.
