Jayson Leutwiler and Ryan McGivern set to play on the international stage

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that Jayson Leutwiler has been called up by Canada for their friendly with South Korea.

The game takes place on the Friday 11th of November in Seoul with Leutwiler joining up with the Canadian squad after the FA Cup clash with Barnet.

Leutwiler will be unavailable for the games with Middlesbrough in the EFL Trophy and Oxford United in the league.

Born in Switzerland, Jayson qualifies for Canada through his mother who is originally from Canada and the Town number one is excited about the prospect of playing international football.

“I’m very happy, very proud as well,” said Jayson.

“It has been a long process. I think Canada contacted me almost a year ago and we had to make the transfer from Switzerland to Canada for the paperwork and now it’s done and I’m very happy.

“It’s going to be an amazing experience and I’m really going to try my best there and just enjoy the moment as well.

“International call-ups are always good for any player, no matter which country. So it definitely takes me to another step and I hope it will help me for the rest of the season as well.”

Meanwhile, Ryan McGivern has been called up by Northern Ireland for third time this season and will face Azerbaijan in a World Cup Qualifier on Friday 11th November, before taking on Croatia in a friendly four days later. Both games will be played in Belfast.
