HEAD TO HEAD: Bury

Matt Bullin takes a look at our recent record with Bury

Bury hold the slight historical edge going into this encounter having won 23 of the past 60 league and cup matches played by the clubs.

Town in turn have 19 wins to their name, while there have been 18 draws between the sides. However, interestingly despite the fact Bury have more positive results, the sides have both scored exactly the same number of goals down the years – 74.

The most recent match-up between the sides came earlier in the season as Bury took all three points Gigg Lane.

Bury won the hot-tempered match 2-1 with a brace from Danny Mayor, though Ivan Toney did bag a second half header for Town.

The game also saw two red cards as James Vaughan picked up two yellow cards in three minutes, and Adam El-Abd received his marching orders early in the second half after picking up his second booking.

In the 2015/16 season the teams met twice in League One, in March 2016, Town secured an entertaining 2-2 draw thanks to a Sully Kaikai brace.

Kaikai struck either side of Tom Soares’ 30th minute strike to give Town a 2-1 half time lead, before Peter Clarke’s goal rescued a point for the home side.

The earlier match in the 15/16 season was the last time the sides met at the Greenhous Meadow and Town came out on top, winning 2-0.

Kaikai opened the scoring for Town once again, and Abu Obogo sealed all three points for Town with a 73rd minute goal.

The clubs also met twice in the 2014/15 season in League Two. In the second match up in April 2015, Bury took a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from a current Town player.

Right back Joe Riley scored a thunderbolt just on the half hour mark to ensure Bury took all three points.

However, earlier in the season it was Town who came out on top – thrashing Bury 5-0 at the Greenhous Meadow.

A Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro hattrick and goals from Jordan Clark and Connor Goldson gave Town their biggest ever win over Bury.
