Academy hoping to appoint staff

Shrewsbury Town's Academy are hopeful of appointing new staff members in the near future

Shrewsbury Town’s Academy look close to appointing new staff members in the coming weeks.

The Academy have been on the search for new staff after Ian Dawes, Matt Rains and Ali Gibb left earlier in the season.

Academy Manager, Andy Jones, is hopeful that the new appointments will be coming in within a matter of weeks.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of applications we’ve had for the posts and I think it just shows where we are at as a club at the moment and what we are trying to do”, Andy told ShrewsWeb.

“Some of the applications were overwhelming and the experience and qualifications of some of the guys that have put their applications in have been superb.

“We are at the stage now where we have been through the applications and it was overwhelming the number we had so we couldn’t actually physically contact every single person who applied.

“But, we’ve done the interviews and we’re in a position where we feel that in the next week or so decisions will be made and appointments will hopefully be in the next two to three weeks.”

With appointments on the horizon Andy was quick to thank those who had filled in over recent weeks and was proud of the reputation the club was getting for developing coaches.

“I think it’s shown with our staff going onto the clubs that they have, that it’s not just the players who are getting a good reputation, it’s also the staff”, said Andy.

“I think we provide a good level of opportunity for our staff to further themselves and I would like to say how well our current staff have done. Callum McKenzie and Ben King are the only full time staff we’ve got at the moment and they are really chipping in and helping out in the last month.

“We’ve also had Wayne Peters our physio who has covered Ali Gibb and he’s a very gifted physio who’s covered over the last few weeks and really brought us together as a team.

“It shows the club philosophy of not only training the players, but also training the coaches and staff to be better and to better themselves and that’s what we are hoping to do.”
