Abu Ogogo Post Northampton Town

Abs talks to the press after the one-all draw

Shrewsbury Town earned a hard fought point at Sixfields as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a Northampton side who finished the game with only nine men on the pitch.

Marc Richards’ opened the scoring for Northampton in the first half, before David Buchanan was sent off 10 minutes into the second half.

Mat Sadler capitalised on Town’s man advantage to equalise after 66 minutes, and gain Salop a point as John-Joe O’Toole was sent off in injury time.

Town skipper Abu Ogogo returned to the starting XI for the first time since February’s 1-0 win over Scunthorpe and he spoke to the press after the match.

“We’re fairly pleased – we gained a point and results went our way,” Ogogo said.

“Mixed emotions, we were away from home, and we went 1-0 down – probably at that stage we would have taken a point.

“But once we scored and they had a couple of men sent off – so unfortunately we couldn’t get nick the decisive goal.”

On a personal note Ogogo admitted he enjoyed being back for Town and playing the full 90 minutes.

“It was always the target [to get back before the end of the season] – I got told 10-12 weeks which would have ruled me out but I’m back a bit quicker than expected.

“It was good, I enjoyed it – I’m tired now but it was good. I was pleased to get 90 minutes under my belt.”

Next up for Town is Southend at the Greenhous Meadow, where they will look to pull further away from the relegation zone.

“Saturday’s going to be tough – Southend lost today so they need a win to get in the play offs. They’re going to be up for it.

“We’re not mathematically safe yet so we need to get some more points on the board.”
