Scott Vernon Joins Town

18 June 2014

Experienced striker joins up with the new look Shrewsbury Town

Experienced striker Scott Vernon has agreed to join Shrewsbury Town on a two-year deal and another year option.

The 30-year-old Manchester-born forward has been with Aberdeen for the last four seasons playing in the Scottish Premier League.

He made over 130 appearances in that time and will bring some excellent experience to the Town forward line.

He started his career with Oldham in 2002 and had spells with Blackpool, Colchester and Southend before moving to Scotland in 2010.

Vernon is a player who will fit in well to Micky Mellon's new-look side and with James Collins already on board it looks like Town could be in the goals next season.

Micky had spoken to Scott a few weeks back and the two had a gentleman's agreement that he would join. Now the paperwork has been done so the news can be released.

"Scott is a very good player and a clever striker who I believe will fit in perfectly to what we are doing," said Micky.

“He’s got great experience and I am absolutely delighted to have Scott on board.

“It’s a deal we know that we have done for a few weeks now but with Scott being on holiday we had to wait until now.

“He makes good runs and has good movement. He’s a striker but can play in a number of variations. He can play in the number 10 role, he can play in a front two or up front on his own.

“He’s been well coached through his life and I’m thrilled to have him on board and look forward to working with him.”
